I did a thing – a bucket list thing!
Most of you probably already know what I’m talking about, but for those of you who haven’t heard the news….I opened a store!
That’s right, a real brick and mortar store. A place where you can come in to see, feel and explore some of my favorite lines of home decor products!
The store is called Blush Home Decor by JSB Designs and it is a wonderful melding of my interior design business and the home store I’ve always dreamed of.
How It Started
I have always had it in the back of my mind to open a home decor store. I know a lot of people enjoy decorating their homes themselves but find it challenging to find quality items that are more unique than the big box stores have to offer.
Through my design firm, JSB Designs, I have the contacts and vendor accounts to get some of the most beautiful, high-end, trendy merchandise. I do it all the time for my clients so I finally decided, why not offer these items to everyone?
The Origins of Blush Home Decor
Did we completely revamp and redesign the retail space? You betcha.
The designer in me took over and I recruited my dad to help me hang wallpaper, lay flooring and build a counter. I had a vision for Blush Home Decor and I was determined to make it come to life!
In the meantime, my marketing team at 618 Creative was compiling a list of names. Have you ever tried to name a store? Do you have any idea how hard it is? After much deliberation and back and forth, I settled on Blush Home Decor by JSB Designs.
Blush struck me from the very beginning. I love pink so it’s reflective of my personal style. As a word, it’s also simple, and it doesn’t just speak to one design style. I really wanted my store to incorporate multiple aesthetics so I didn’t want anything that sounded too rustic or too glam or too….anything!
Then the 618 Creative team went to work developing a logo and I went shopping for products and began ordering and styling the store (I do believe I got the best end of this deal!).
The Grandest Opening
Blush Home Decor by JSB Designs officially opened its doors on Saturday, November 3. I was so nervous leading up to the big day. I loved everything I had in the store but I kept worrying that we had forgotten something or that no one would come.
Boy, was I wrong. We had a great first day! It was a bit of a party with friends and family stopping by to check the place out and of course there were refreshments and giveaways and lots of socializing. It was the perfect day.
How It’s Going
I cannot believe that we are coming up on the six month mark of Blush Home Decor! We had a successful first holiday season, weathered the slow winter months and are now bursting at the seams with all the pretty items spring has to offer.
Stop in soon to get seasonal decor, faux florals, furniture, wall art, accent pieces, and gift items like home fragrances, cute wine glasses, and even jewelry! We really do have a little bit of everything at Blush.
Ladies Night
To celebrate the new businesses in our little corner of town, we are planning a Ladies Night on May 3 at 101 North Main Street, Smithton. Grab the girls and come out for a night of shopping and fun!
We will be staying open late that night, as will our friends at Pure Chique Salon. Participating businesses will have giveaways and goodies, and Papa Vito’s will be serving up food and drinks. The Clothes Line Boutique from Waterloo will set up shop in the parking lot, we will have a cup vendor selling super cute tumblers and Pure Chique will have Stacie Luter with Lucky Locks Waterloo putting in hair sparkles.
We hope you will come out and check out Blush and everything Smithton has to offer on May 3 – check our facebook page for more details as the date gets closer.
You’re Making Me Blush
People’s reaction to Blush Home Decor has not only been supportive but even a little overwhelming! I’ve had clients visit from Belleville and St. Louis, I’ve met shoppers from Waterloo and Columbia and a group of ladies from Red Bud have come in a couple different times.
I’ve met lots of nice people from Smithton and I can understand why this little town is growing in popularity. It’s a nice change of pace to spend a few hours at Blush visiting with people and helping them curate a home they love.
I staff the store myself a few days a week so make sure you stop by and say hello!
Blush Home Decor is open Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. I hope to see you soon!
