As a designer, sometimes you get so busy creating beauty for other people that your own home gets overlooked.
So it’s very rewarding when you complete a project you love in your own space. I recently finished my screened-in porch “oasis” and couldn’t wait to share the pictures.
It was a time-consuming project but well worth the effort.
My inspiration piece for this room was a bench I found on Craigslist. As you can see, it was a little rough when I bought it. It had been used as a dog bed!
Since it needed some major TLC, I took the bench to a colleague who specializes in repairing antique furniture. He tightened all the spindles, fixed the loose ones and adjusted the legs so the piece would sit at a normal seat height.
When he returned the piece to me, it was the perfect framework for a daybed!
From that point, I was free to sand the piece, prime and paint it. I ordered the big seat cushion online from Custom Cushions, a fantastic resource for ordering custom upholstered pieces.
I simply entered my measurements, picked my fabric, added details, and the cushion was shipped directly to my door. I chose complimentary pillows from Amazon and added some Mickey pillows I previously purchased on a vacation at Disney.
Once I had the daybed as the focal point, I was able to build the rest of the room. I added the white chairs and pillows from Pier 1 Imports. I found the round yellow table at a vintage market in Belleville.
I discovered the library table at the vintage market as well. I brought it home, sanded it and painted it that glorious orange.
I picked up accessories at some of my favorite stores like Hobby Lobby, and brought a few home from trips to Florida. I added garden lights from Target and a colorful rug to complete the room.
I love my new porch oasis, and can’t wait to spend time out there with my family.
