This year’s Pantone Color of the Year, Living Coral, is a welcome sight after these long months of winter – especially since it falls into one of my current favorite color palettes.
Reminiscent of spring flowers, sunsets, tropical beaches and island getaways, Living Coral embodies warmth.
This is a beautiful and versatile color that I can see integrating seamlessly in many aspects of a home. Yes, even a Midwestern home far from the beach. While this color does evoke feelings of a coastal region, it is so much more.
According to Pantone.com, “the vibrant yet mellow Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”
Living Coral is further described as a “nurturing” color that was chosen because it helps connect the world outside to the interior of our home and “energizes” and “enlivens”.
I think we will see this hue everywhere. As a paint color, accent color for throw pillows and artwork, in floor and window coverings, in pattern designs and more. I can’t wait to use this warm and inviting color in kitchens and spaces where people gather.
I can see Living Coral working with a variety of existing design themes such as mid century modern, rustic, farmhouse and modern decor. I think this color is going to be just what we need to freshen up a room and bring us into the brighter days ahead.
